Would You Drive Your Car Without Fuel in It? …Who Does That?!

24-May-2016.By: 'Machi Solomon

Is it possible to drive your car without fuel in it? How about a stove, can you light it up without kerosene? …or your Gas Stove without Gas? You may say yes because the fire burns on the thread, right? But how long will the flame burn and what would you have cooked before the fire goes out?

If you won’t do this to your car or your cooker, why do it to your body? Why allow your body to run the course of the day excruciatingly without breakfast? Now imagine the Stove or Gas Cooker is human, the way you use kerosene or gas to keep the fire burning, that is how important breakfast is to your body.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It provides the body with fuel after an overnight fast, guess this is where the name originates. Without breakfast, you are effectively running on empty, like trying to start the car with no gas, or a stove with no kerosene.

Some people avoid eating breakfast because they believe skipping breakfast may help them lose weight. Well, sorry to burst your bubbles, as research shows that skipping breakfast often leads to overeating later in the day, which in the long run makes one add weight. And because people skip breakfast, they are prone to eating more calories than if they had an appropriate breakfast.

Ordinarily, our brain runs on glucose; that’s the fuel we need to think, walk, talk, and carry on any and all activities. Let's say that the last time you eat something before going to bed is at 9 or 10 PM. The following day, if you don't eat breakfast but eat by mid-day. By the time your tummy begins to grumble, you will realize that you've gone sixteen or fifteen hours with nothing in your system. You brain will surely be deprived of function properly and your body will have to work extra hard to break down any stored carbohydrate or turn fat or protein into a usable form.

Imagine what it will be like if you attend classes or work without breakfast, you will certainly be at a disadvantage because you haven’t eaten. Others will think faster, clearer, recall better and work at their very best with little effort than you. When you eat breakfast, you tend to concentrate more, solve problems more, remember and perform better than others.

You may want to ask, what if there's not enough time in the morning to stay back for breakfast. Well, the truth is that you are just trying to escape from either getting late to work or school. But who says you can’t when there are a number of items you can take along to school or work. Eg. Carry a bag of easy-to-eat whole grain cereal, sandwich, or bring a small box of skim milk, juice, or fruit. Apart from providing us with energy, breakfast foods are good sources of important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre.

Taking just a few minutes to have something to eat can really make a difference to your health, it will save you from a collection of risk factors such as an increase in diastolic and systolic blood pressure that raise heart risk. Although it might be a real struggle, but whatever it takes, eat something in the morning. You will surely perform better when you add some fuel to your system.
